We’re delighted to share news that former 2017 – 18 CBRL Postdoctoral Research Fellow Polly Withers has been awarded one of LSE’s seven ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowships. Polly joined LSE’s Department of Media and Communications and the Middle East Centre in October after spending a year at CBRL’s Kenyon Institute in East Jerusalem.

Her interdisciplinary, ethnographic, and gender-sensitive research explores everyday politics in Palestinian performative and expressive music practices. She is particularly concerned with tracing the identities, relations, hierarchies, and social contexts such popular cultural idioms form and when these shift. She is now developing a monograph from two years of ethnographic fieldwork in Palestine (in Haifa, Ramallah and Jerusalem) and its diaspora (in Amman and London), with the "alternative" youth music scene in Palestine. Read more about Polly’s research in her blog post here.
