Development Officer maternity cover

CBRL is a British Academy-sponsored charity that promotes, sponsors, and carries out high-quality research in the humanities and social sciences throughout the countries of the Levant, with its UK office in London and research centres in Amman and Jerusalem.

CBRL is one of the British International Research Institutes (BIRI), a network of overseas research organisations that operate in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. All the BIRI conduct research, collaborate with overseas and UK-based partners, and provide facilities, training and financial, academic and logistical support to researchers. The BIRI also run events and outreach programmes, held in the UK and overseas. UK BIRI staff share office facilities at the British Academy.

We now seek a Development Officer to cover a maternity leave from mid-September 2020.

Job purpose and summary

The Development Officer plays a key role across CBRL’s UK operations and works closely with institute directors in Amman and Jerusalem. The Development Officer’s line manager will be the CBRL Director in Amman. Strong communication and organisational skills are essential to this role, familiarity with the charity and higher education landscape as well as the Levant region will be useful. Enthusiasm and initiative are equally important as this position’s line manager is based in Amman. The CBRL Development Officer will manage CBRL communications and outreach activities, membership, website management and fundraising activities. This is a varied and interesting role.

This role could be either full-time or part-time depending on the candidate’s experience. This post is for a 7-month maternity cover, starting mid-September 2020. The role is usually based in our London office but is currently working remotely from home due to the Covid pandemic.
