Shaddin is a Research Fellow at the Council for British Research in the Levant. She is also a postdoctoral researcher at Danube University Krems on an ERC project titled ‘MixedRivals’. Shaddin holds a PhD Migration Studies from Danube University Krems (2024), a MSc Migration, Mobilities and Development from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (2019), and a BA Economics from the American University of Sharjah (2016). Her PhD thesis was titled, ‘Refugee Inclusion – For Whom? A Case Study Of Nationality-Based Refugee Aid In Countries Of First Asylum’ and explored causes of refugee aid differentiation in Jordan and Turkey.
Her research focus is on inequalities between refugee and migrant groups of varying backgrounds. She is particularly interested in the interactions between aid, development, and refugee/migrant integration, with a specific focus on the SWANA and East Africa regions. She works across the academic and development sector and has carried out consultancies with organizations in Europe and the Middle East including the International Labour Organization, International Center for Migration Policy Development, FairSquare, and Social Impact. She also previously worked as a Senior Policy Officer at Oxfam and a Human Security Researcher at the WANA Institute in Jordan.
Shaddin will be working with CBRL from January to March 2025 to support our research work in Amman.
