Our archive contains an exceptional collection of photographs and negatives from excavations in Palestine during the 1930s. Among these, the excavation of archaeologist Harris Dunscombe Colt Jr. stands out as he documented significant archaeological efforts of the era, particularly his research on Roman and Byzantine sites. Colt was also a pioneer in early archaeological photography and innovative excavation techniques, which greatly influenced the field. 

The collection includes remarkable images from the Auja site, highlighting its historical importance. Notable features include Auja excavation and a series of photographs capturing visits by Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope, the British High Commissioner in Palestine during the 1930s, to the locations of Auja and Esbeita. These images underscore the site’s prominence during the British Mandate period.
