Update: we have extended the deadline for grant applications to Friday 5th November at 5.00pm.
We are delighted to announce that the 2021-22 call for applications to CBRL grant programme is now open. CBRL has a track record in funding some of the most ground-breaking research projects in, and on the Levant. As ever, this year, we look forward to receiving a diverse range of applications from the best and the brightest scholars working in this region. CBRL grants support post-doctoral research in the humanities, social sciences, and related disciplines for research on the Levant, with opportunities for graduate students based at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the UK and the Levant.
Through our grant programmes, CBRL hopes to nurture communities of researchers at our institutes – in Jordan and East Jerusalem – bringing scholars together through interdisciplinary research on the Levant.
This year we have made several changes to our grant programme, simplifying the application process, and making some small changes to the grants available. We are pleased to offer opportunities for both UK and Levant-based scholars; all applicants must have a university or HEI/research organisation affiliation, in the UK or the Levant.
We have changed how we fund our travel grants and introduced the new research support grants – using income generated from CBRL membership and donations – and thus we are able to open opportunities to a wider group of scholars. The new research support grants are open to Levant-based scholars, our travel grants, to both UK and Levant based scholars, graduate and post-doctoral. Residential fellowships are open to both UK and Levant-based scholars with a UK HEI-affiliation. Please refer to the research grant application guidance notes for more information.
The deadline for application to CBRL’s funding will close at 5.00pm GMT on Monday 1st November 2021. If you would like to discuss your research project and application in advance of this deadline, please contact us at: [email protected] with the subject line ‘Funding application query.’
