The Roman Theatre in Amman

Preserved within the archives of early archaeological exploration in Jordan is an extraordinary collection of photographs captured during John Winter Crowfoot’s excavations. Conducted in collaboration with Yale University and the British School of Archaeology in Jerusalem (BSAJ) during the 1920s, these excavations documented remarkable discoveries in Gerash and Amman. Among the collection’s highlights are two captivating photographs: one of the Roman Theatre in Amman and another of the South Theatre in Jerash, both exemplifying the grandeur and ingenuity of Roman architectural design.
