Sean Hird is a qualified solicitor with an international career that spans both the not-for-profit, government and private sectors. Currently he works in the London office of a major US law firm, focussing primarily on compliance matters.
Following a PhD in molecular biology, Sean went on to qualify as a solicitor specialising in intellectual property law. He then left private practice and moved in-house to set-up the commercial legal function of a major cancer charity, working with academic institutions to commercialise charity funded research. Sean subsequently held executive leadership roles in life science companies in the UK and Australia gaining considerable experience in start-up origination and fundraising including as the founding CEO of an agricultural biotechnology company. For 3 years, Sean was a Director of the United Arab Emirate’s international Courts in Dubai and led initiatives to set-up and manage new digital services. He returned to the UK in 2020.
Currently Sean is a trustee of The Brain Tumour Charity where he sits on their Governance and Ethics Committee and also a Scientific Fellow of The London Zoological Society (which operates London and Whipsnade Zoos).
Sean was elected as a CBRL trustee in December 2022. He is a member of the finance and governance and development committees.
