The British Society for Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) together with the Council for British Research in the Levant (CBRL) are pleased to announce their second joint mentoring webinar for our members. Targeting postgraduate students and early career researchers, these on-line events offer practical advice and support from specialists, equipping the next generation of Middle East scholars with the insights needed to get ahead in their research and careers.

This event brings together editors from the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies [BJMES]; Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East [CSSAAME]; Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies [JMEWS]; and Contemporary Levant [CL]. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions specific to these journals and their respective processes.

About the speakers:
Lloyd Ridgeon is a reader in Islamic Studies at the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow. He has been involved with the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies (BJMES) for over twenty years and is now the journal’s chief editor. BJMES is BRISMES’ journal with five issues published each year. Lloyd’s research interests include medieval Persian Sufism, and various aspects of religion and politics in Iran since the time of the Qajars.
Marwa Elshakry teaches the history of science and the history of ideas in the Middle East at Columbia University. She is a senior editor of Comparative Studies of South Asia, Africa and the Middle East (CSSAAME). Marwa received her M.A. (1997) and Ph.D. (2003) from Princeton.
Soha Bayoumi is a senior lecturer in the Medicine, Science, and the Humanities Program at John Hopkins University’s Krieger School of Arts and Sciences. Soha is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Middle East Women’s Studies (JMEWS) and Associate Editor of the Journal of Islamic and Muslim Studies (JIMS). With a focus on medicine and public health, her research addresses the questions of health and social justice, biomedical ethics, and the medicine-politics nexus, with a geographical focus on the Middle East and a special interest in postcolonial and gender studies.
